What is dry eye disease?

Tears are needed to nourish the eyes and keep them healthy. Normally, tears protect the eye by providing moisture, helping to wash away dust and debris, and keeping your vision clear.1

With dry eye disease:1

  • The eyes do not make enough tears; or
  • The tears that are made are of poor quality

When tears aren’t doing what they are supposed to do, this can lead to damage to the surface of the eye.1

For some patients, dry eye disease is a serious and chronic condition that won’t go away on its own. It can require ongoing treatment and long-term management.1

Your eye doctor will tell you what is the best treatment for your needs. Be sure to follow his or her recommendations and remember to use any treatment consistently as prescribed.
